Two week update

I have not posted any blog update as to how my racing has been going for a few weeks. I will try my best to clear up how I have been doing.

Two weeks ago I was able to get outside to train for 2 to 3 quality sessions. It seems those sessions were helpful. When I raced at GVSU I knew I had two opportunities to race, Prelim and Final. My first run was very comfortable and had now competition getting a season best of 14.65.

I sat around for 3 hours waiting for my next warmup. Warmup went well, did a bunch of visualization and was prepared to chase down the sub 14 runner in the finals. I am still struggling with getting out of the blocks well but I proved that I am back to the speed and form I was in for the German Championships indoor. All my interval splits were where they should be and I ran a major Season best at 14.36 wind aided.

3rd Place finish 14.34

The next week I was hoping to continue the quality training but weather had once again put its foot down. I had a very cold workout early in the week, then it was in the mid 30's so I was back inside in the hallway to work on one or two hurdle form work. Not quite what I was looking for.

My race at Hillsdale on Saturday was not what you would call optimal conditions, following the trend from the entire week. Race temp was around 40 degrees (5 degrees C). My only goal was to not get injured. I succeeded! My race was a bit different from what I was hoping but overall not terrible considering the weather. I finished 2nd at the line to one of the hurdlers I have come to know through the years. My time was 14.57, so still better than I was ever able to run at the University level.

I was hoping for the weather to turn around this week and it has. The problem with that though, is that I am now trying to play catch up. I wanted to be further along, but training in Michigan creates limits as to what is possible. A large number of my hurdler friend base are currently or were down on islands doing spring training while I was day to day dealing with cold, hot, snow, rain, and heavy wind!

I race this weekend at Ohio State at the Jesse Owens Classic. Hoping for some big improvements!
